Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #1: While at the library, for fun, great looking table centerpieces, check out some dinosaur books and arrange them with the books standing up, half open so that their pages can be quasi-seen.

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #2: Make prehistoric palm trees from tall halogen lights and coat/hat stands. Cover the poles in brown packing paper for a tree trunk brown color. Fronds can be made from large sheets of construction paper, poster board, or purchased at wholesale craft stores.

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #3: If going for the traditional balloons and streamers, you might consider earthier tones such as browns, beiges and greens. Depending on your space, get a couple extra rolls of brown and create a ‘volcano feel’ over the food table or in the middle of the room. Simply choose a centerpoint on the ceiling and imagine a two to three foot diameter circle on the ceiling at that point. Now tape streamers all around this imagined circles, long enough to be draped to an adjacent wall, allowing some drooping for the shaping of the volcano. A few choice red/orange/yellow balloons in the center circle would really finish it off! It’s a great way to decorate a room on a tighter budget.

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #4: A word about fog machines…In the right place, they can be VERY effective. Contact your local stage and lighting company for local rates and available products for rental – however ask around to friends and family, too. Lots of people have their own home haunt stash of props for Halloween…you may get lucky! HINT: If you’d like a thick fog, make sure that you get some PEA SOUP liquid (they make different kinds). The usual liquid they offer dissipates rather quickly. Fog looks great – especially at the entrance. There definitely doesn’t need to be a lot of it. You can also check in to seeing if they have a cooling unit. These are small units that the fog passes through before being released. It chills the fog so that it hovers on the ground versus dissipating in the air. It looks great. I’ve also heard of individuals creating their own cooling units with a Styrofoam ice chest and some dry ice. Check for some ‘how to’s’ online if you’re interested in going this route.

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #5: Weather permitting, tiki torches are a great way to set the mood in an outdoor setting. Even if your event is to be held entirely indoors, a few lit torches on the outside entrance look fantastic – especially at dusk. These can be usually purchased at a Wal-Mart or most garden centers.

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #6: Anyone you know have some old, rotted wood lying around the yard? Take the splintered scraps as these make EXCELLENT signs. Get some black paint and write, rather slapdash, the words for needed signs for your party or event. As an added touch, buy some orange, black-light paint at your local stage and lighting company and have it illuminated with a good black light. Of course, this would only work in a darker setting, but the effect is incredible – like a volcano!

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #7: If you want to paint with a faux rock/stone finish (without spending an arm and a leg on those craft store kits) buy a few cans of spray paint instead. Gray, black and white should do the trick (unless you’d like to substitute gray with brown – for caves). With a hobby razor blade, lightly score the nozzle hole of the spray can. This will cause the paint to sputter rather than spray. Make sure the surface is covered first in the gray (or medium brown), then add some sputtering of the white and black (or lighter and darker brown.)

Prehistoric Dinosaur Theme Party Decorating Ideas #8: Rocks, rocks, rocks! Get your hands on whatever rocks you can. These look PERFECT for centerpieces, placed at the entrance or anywhere. Can’t have an official Stone Age without stones!
